John Ryan Papers, 1909-1938.

This collection contains letters written by John Ryan during his various periods of imprisonment as well as other ephemera and objects relating to his involvement in the IRA. He often signs his letters and is referred to as Séan, the Irish version of John.

Notes:John (Séan) Ryan was a member of the IRA. He was involved in the 1933 attack on General Eoin O’Duffy in Kerry in 1933 for which he was arrested along with thirteen other men. He was held as a political prisoner on several different occasions in Arbour Hill in Co.Dublin, The Curragh Camp in Co.Kildare, and Killarney Barrack in Co.Kerry. He also spent time in Mountjoy Prison, Co.Dublin. The periods of his incarceration range from 1923 up to 1935.
