Notes: | The collection comprises 13 letters from various people, and one unassociated envelope. Many of the letters have signs of having been pasted or tipped into an album, and subsequently removed. Most of the correspondents are connected with politics and many were government Ministers or Prime Ministers. Sir William Somerville was a British politician, who stood as M.P. for Drogheda for many years. He was appointed Chief Secretary for Ireland in July 1847. In 1863 he was created a peer of Ireland, with the title of Baron Athlumney of Somerville and Dollardstown; in 1866 he was raised to the peerage of the United Kingdom as Baron Meredyth of Dollardstown, Co.
