Notes:Postcards signed "Alfie". Addressed to his sister Violet Stone, 15 Mount Shannon Road, Kilmainham, Dublin. Private William Alfred Stone was born in Co. Antrim in 1890. He is recorded in the 1911 census living at 15 Mount Shannon Road, Kilmainham, Dublin, with his parents, brothers and sister. At the outbreak of the First World War, he enlisted in the 8th Battalion, Border Regiment, and was killed on the Western Front on 22nd March 1918. Postcards show scenes of destruction in Belgium caused by the war.
