Description:Contains a large amount of Niall Montgomery's disparate handwritten notes, loose pages and extracts for his essays on Marcel Proust and James Joyce. The folders are generally organised by themes allocated by Montgomery. Themes include death, humour, wit and joy, intelligence, epiphany, imagination, love, romance, cruelty, sleep and dreams, culture, literature and philosophy, music, racism and nationalism, time and space, memory and agony, communication and language, perception, madness and pain, family, friendship and nature. The last six folders contain Montgomery’s notes labelled "art" and "development of the artist".
