Journals of Lieutenant Edmund A. Grubbe of the 88th Connaught Rangers,

1878-1883.

Edmund Alexander Grubbe was educated at Eton, and then joined the Royal Bucks Militia (King's Own), before becoming a Lieutenant in the 88th Connaught Rangers in 1879. He served with them at their base at Multan, Punjab, India, and in 1891 he was seconded for service as Adjutant in the Inidan Staff Corps, and promoted to Major in 1898. His journals provide an insight into the life of a British army officer in the Raj from August 1878 to July 1883.
