Father Michael O'Hickey makes comments suggesting others would prefer for the Chair of Irish Professor to lapse as they "do not see the practical use of it, distracts the attention of the students from subjects of more utilty". O'Hickey has also made copies of letters from various correspondents declaring their pleasure at him going forward for the position of Professor of Irish in St. Patrick's College, used as testimonials.
