Manuscript and typescript drafts of the memoirs of republican Kathleen Clarke (née Daly), in which she recalls her early life in Limerick, the Fenian tradition within her family, her meeting and later marriage to veteran Fenian Tom Clarke, his participation in the Easter Rising, his subsquent execution, her own imprisonment in Holloway Jail and her political career with Sinn Féin and later Fianna Fáil. Contains both notebooks and typescript sheets.

Description:Clarke's recollections provide an account of German involvement in supporting Irish republicans prior to the Easter Rising, Eoin MacNeill’s actions in Easter Week, the arming of the Irish Volunteers for the Rising, her husband Tom Clarke's affection for Sean McGarry and Sean McDermott, her husband’s death and contribution to Irish republicanism, the drafting of the Proclamation and the plan for the fighting for Dublin and throughout the country. She also writes of a fundraising lecture tour of America undertaken by Pearse in 1914, her recollections of Roger Casement and James Connolly, the reception given to released prisoners at Westland Row station in 1917 and Arthur Griffith’s newspaper career. Her description of spending Christmas 1915 with the Daly family in Limerick is cut short as four pages have been torn from the notebook.
