Notes:Kathleen McKenna Napoli was born in 1897 in Oldcastle, County Meath. Her family were strong Nationalists with a circle of friends that included Arthur Griffith and Douglas Hyde. She played a prominent role in the War of Independence and in the early years of the Free state. In 1921 she acted as secretary to Arthur Griffith, head of the Irish Delegation, during treaty negotiations in London. She also served as private secretary to Desmond Fitzgerald, Kevin O’Higgins and William Cosgrave. She was a regular contributor to the Irish Independent and Irish Times throughout her life. She died on 22 March 1988.
