Muriel Gahan Papers,

1930-1994.

Papers of Muriel Gahan, reflecting her work as a promoter of traditional crafts in Ireland and role in the establishment of The Country Shop, Country Workers Ltd., the Irish Homespun Society and Country Markets Ltd. The collection also sheds light of her active involvement in further organisations such as the Royal Dublin Society, the Irish Countrywomen's Association, Foras Éireann, Macra na Tuaithe, the Crafts Council of Ireland and the credit union movement. Also included are papers of Blanaid O'Reilly, concerning the work of the Conor Magee Trust which provided financial support for weavers in the Donegal Gaeltacht and with whom Gahan collaborated as an I.H.S. member.

Description:Included is an I.H.S. memorandum 'to the Conor Magee Trust on the development of Rug Weaving and Furnishing Textiles in the Donegal and Galway Gaeltachts', a copy letter to Agnes O'Farrelly from Muriel Gahan concerning their memorandum (3 Apr 1950), correspondence between Gahan of the I.H.S. and solicitor Sean Ó hUadhaigh, regarding the Society's access to the Trust's fund (6 Sept. 1951-6 Feb. 1952) and a copy letter to the Trust secretary from the I.H.S. concerning possible funding for the Society's instructors in craftwork (25 June 1956).
