Muriel Gahan Papers,

1930-1994.

Papers of Muriel Gahan, reflecting her work as a promoter of traditional crafts in Ireland and role in the establishment of The Country Shop, Country Workers Ltd., the Irish Homespun Society and Country Markets Ltd. The collection also sheds light of her active involvement in further organisations such as the Royal Dublin Society, the Irish Countrywomen's Association, Foras Éireann, Macra na Tuaithe, the Crafts Council of Ireland and the credit union movement. Also included are papers of Blanaid O'Reilly, concerning the work of the Conor Magee Trust which provided financial support for weavers in the Donegal Gaeltacht and with whom Gahan collaborated as an I.H.S. member.

Description:Typescript documents relating to I.H.S. demonstrations and exhibitions, with particular reference to their contribution to the Royal Dublin Society's Spring Show. Included is a list exhibitors who participated in the 1938-9 Spring Shows and the minutes of a meeting held in the aftermath of the 1938 Show. Also included are lists of demonstrators at unspecified craft events from 1940 to 1942 and a notice regarding an I.H.S. 'Traditional Ireland' exhibition for which the Mansion House, Dublin was the proposed venue.
