Letter from Patrick McCartan to Joseph McGarrity exposing "the uses made of religion in Ireland",
1908 January 18.
The letter concerns the attempt of local farmers to build a creamery and Father Cornelius Short's meddling in the matter, especially over the site, and using his influence to support the publicans. The Irish Agricultural Organisation Society was asked to arbitrate between the different parties (farmers and publicans) and "a Hibernian, an Orangeman and a Sinn Féinner" were nominated to the arbitration committee. McCartan also mentions people from Carrickmore and in the United States.
