Macready asks to speak with Foran concerning the conditions of the labour movement in Ireland; Foran states that O'Brien is the best person to provide this information but that he is at present "kidnapped", writing "It is useless attempting to get a "grip on the conditions in this country" until you let go your grip on the citizens of this country". Also included is an extract from 'The Freeman's Journal', dated 13th May, noting that Sir Hamar Greenwood has ordered the release of O'Brien.
