Mentions that Maud Gonne "was anxious that as far as possible none of them [the prisoners] should suffer as regards employment, and I hope you will do your best [with the cheque]." Of the United Irish League, he writes "I see the United Irish League is striving to nobble Mountmellick. I trust the people will not allow themselves to be hoodwinked by these men. Their paper the Freeman's Journal refused to insert a line regarding the recent prosecutions."
