Letter from Patrick Egan, Lincoln, Nebraska, USA, to Henry Du Pré Labouchere MP, regarding sueing the 'Times' for £50,000, with endorsement at rear from Labouchere to Sir Charles Russell,

1889 April 18.

Writes: "From the way in which the vile calumnies against my character concocted by the miserable forger and perjurer Pigott and published by the London Times are still being circulated not only in England but in Canada and through certain channels in this country, I find it necessary in order to, once for all, settle this matter to take some action. I therefore sent you today the following cablegram: "will thank you to consult Russell and if he approves have suit entered against Times in my name and as he directs for fifty thousand pounds"".
