Lombard Family Papers,

1355-1912.

Contains family and estate papers of the Lombard family of Lombardstown, Co. Cork. The Lombards held land in Cork from the fourteenth century but the Lombardstown estate was mainly purchased by James Lombard [d.1652] ca. 1620. The estate contained lands in Gortmolire, Lackandarragh, Brittas, Glantane, Curragraigue, Lackaroe, Ballyfinn, Shanakill and Donore. The family also had substantial holdings in Cork city. The estate papers comprise a large collection of deeds including conveyances, mortgages and leases, as well as a series of rentals and estate accounts. There are a small number of maps and surveys. Amongst these deeds are property transactions for many other prominent Cork families including the Tyrry, Goold, Lavallin, Skiddy, Coppinger, Water, Miaghe [Meade] and Barrett families. The Lombard family papers contain marriage settlements, wills, legal and financial papers as well as a small collection of correspondence.
