Hamilton's letters are written from Barcelona, Brittany and Guildford, Surrey, during a period he was living and working in Barcelona, and relate to the Civil War in Spain. He refers to censorship of letters coming into Spain, street fighting in Barcelona in July 1936, the evacuation of British citizens living in Barcelona, his fears of 'anti British feeling' developing in the city (1938) and his own support for the nationalists.
