Family and estate papers of the Holroyd-Smyth family of Ballynatray,Co. Waterford. Estate papers include conveyances, leases, rentals, surveys, maps and labour accounts for their holdings in Waterford, Limerick and Cork. Also contains papers for the Grice family of Co. Limerick and the Moore family of Clonmel, Co. Tipperary. Richard Smyth married Alice Grice, daughter and co-heir of Richard Grice of Ballycullane, Co. Limerick in 1683. The papers of the Moore family came into the collection due to the marriage of Charlotte Mary Smyth to Charles William Moore, 5th Earl Mount Cashell in 1848. Among the family papers is a large collection of correspondence, the majority of which is that of Richard Smyth (1796-1858)of Ballynatray. The family papers also include a substantial collection of legal and financial papers, genealogical material and photographs, as well as marriage and testamentary material.

| Description: | Letters concerning personal and legal matters including letters from agents, lawyers and tenants. Includes correspondence relating to a murder that took place in Templemichael of a woman called Margaret Savage in 1825. Letters mainly concern witnesses, inquest and procedures involving the arrest of her husband, Daniel Savage for the crime [Richard Smyth was a magistrate for Co. Waterford] Many letters concerning the marriage of Richard Smyth's sister, Penelope, to the Prince of Capua. These relate to her marriage settlement and money concerns, many are from Richard's brother, Rev. Grice Blakeney Smyth. Other letters concern John Daly and the encroachment of his windmill on the lands of Richard Smyth and a letter from the prebendary of Elphin regarding a seat in the church of Kilmallock.
