Holroyd-Smyth Family Papers,

1618-1965.

Family and estate papers of the Holroyd-Smyth family of Ballynatray,Co. Waterford. Estate papers include conveyances, leases, rentals, surveys, maps and labour accounts for their holdings in Waterford, Limerick and Cork. Also contains papers for the Grice family of Co. Limerick and the Moore family of Clonmel, Co. Tipperary. Richard Smyth married Alice Grice, daughter and co-heir of Richard Grice of Ballycullane, Co. Limerick in 1683. The papers of the Moore family came into the collection due to the marriage of Charlotte Mary Smyth to Charles William Moore, 5th Earl Mount Cashell in 1848. Among the family papers is a large collection of correspondence, the majority of which is that of Richard Smyth (1796-1858)of Ballynatray. The family papers also include a substantial collection of legal and financial papers, genealogical material and photographs, as well as marriage and testamentary material.

Includes bond of Evan Lloyd to George Benson, 7 April 1656; articles of agreement between George Benson and Evan Lloyd [2 copies] 7 April 1656; bond of Richard Grice to Arthur Ormsby, 13 December 1667; bond of Richard Staper to Richard Moore, 28 April 1669; bond of William and Peter Bulkeley to Richard Moore, 6 February 1681; bonds of Hannibal and Michael Cox to Arthur Hyde; William Emett to Richard Smyth; John Harraghill, John Doghny andd Edmond Shanaghane to Joseph Lloyd. Also includes the bond of Richard Smyth to Robert Uniacke Fitzgerald for £3000 [1742]; a bond of Gregory Salter to Richard and Gertrude Smyth [1730] and a joint bond of Grice and John Smyth to Bent Ball for £100 [1791].
