Also included are a number of diary entries in which he refers to his starting work on a poem 'set on Lough Derg' (4 Sept 1979), his feelings on leaving Belfast, his thoughts that the 'Lough Derg poem' is 'like a building site, abandoned in November. Cold. Mucky.' and the importance of recent contact with Ted Hughes and Thomas Kilroy (16 Nov 1980), his impressions on the politcal and intellectual climate in Ireland (Jan 1981), further progress and plans for the 'Station Island' sequence (16 Jan. 1981) and his thoughts on his time spent teaching alongside Michael McLaverty in St. Thomas' School, Belfast.
