Shemus Cartoon Collection

Collection of original cartoons (mainly political) for the Freeman's Journal and Weekly Freeman by artist Ernest Forbes, pen name 'Shemus'. Period of publication 1920-1924. Includes also 23 pen & ink drawings signed by 'Cormac' (other pen name of same artist)and various clippings and lithographic prints. Includes some of the portrait caricatures from the "Snapped by Shemus" series, published by the Freeman's Journal, February-July 1923. The collection represents over three-quarters of the total of his drawings published by the Freeman's Journal. An additional 30 items in the collection appear to be unpublished.
