He married / Sarah Kerrigan of Birr Barracks, Eire, & I taught / their eldest child - Oscar Junr. - the violin. / Henry Farmer of Birr".

Charles Rennie Mackintosh won the Alexander Thomson Travelling Studentship and set out for Italy in spring 1891. Up to 41 of the opening drawings in this sketchbook were executed in Scotland over three years preceding the Italian trip.
