Inscribed in ink on inside of front cover upper left: Sawyer 1937 £36

Sketchbook with brown vellum cover with clasp (broken). Name "Gabriel Beringer" embossed in gold on red leather label on cover. Underneath label is the inscription "Gl. Beranger" etched into the velum.

This volume was bequeathed by Gabriel Beranger to a Mrs Walker, a niece of his second wife. It purchased by the National Library in 1937.

Description:Drawing of the Market Cross that once stood in Kilkenny, Ireland. It was erected in 1335 and by 1650, Cromwellian soldiers were using the crucifix on top for target practice. In 1771 it was demolished by Mayor Blunt because it was giving shelter to "idle and dissolute characters".
