The Poole Photographic Collection

[graphic]

Most of the A. H. Poole Studio Photographic Collection consists of privately commissioned portraits of people in the south-east of Ireland, particularly from Waterford, Tipperary Kilkenny and Wexford . This includes studio portraits of locals, staff portraits from business firms and large houses, school classes, trade unions, clubs and societies. In addition to photographs documenting Waterford city and county primarily, the Poole firm provided photographic coverage for newspapers of events such as the arrival in Cork of survivors of the sunk Lusitania (1915), and society gatherings in the UK. The Poole Collection includes some postcards for local business, firms and institutions.

In June 2014 a book was transferred from the Manuscripts Department and accessioned as NPA 2014/12 POOLEB. This book appeared to be similar to the indexes used to create the Poole database. On the cover a label reads "Numbered list of large CDV (9 x 12 cm) views and snapshots. 1931 onwards. Also cabinet snapshots views."
